National Parks Icon Set
I created a system of interconnected pictorial marks representing the culture, activities, and characteristics of Denali national park. The final deliverables included a tryptic icon set that conveys the associative identity of the chosen park, and a web screen mockup that pairs cohesively with the final digital icons.
Flightseeing
Flightseeing is the act of sightseeing via aircraft. Visitors of the park may participate in flightseeing in order to view as much of the vast landscape and wildlife as possible, especially areas that are difficult to access through other modes of transportation.
skiing
Skiers at Denali have the choice of using skis as a form of transportation and exploration via ski mountaineering tours, or for intense backcountry skiing routes. The mountain peak is essential to Denali’s identity, so I wanted to include an activity that specifically utilized the mountain and makes the mountain representation more integrated into the icon as a whole.
dogsledding
Dogsledding is an activity and mode of transportation that is unique to Alaskan culture. Although Denali is not on the famous Alaskan Iditarod trail, Denali is the only national park to have its own sled dog kennel. To represent this culturally significant activity I’ve combined a paw print and sled mushing through the snow. The paw print is diagonally intersected to more closely represent a pack on a dogsled.
